Adult Care Center of Central Virginia

The Adult Care Center’s program of care is designed to meet the individual needs of adults with health care issues such as Alzheimers, Stroke, and Parkinsons.

We are licensed by the Department of Social Services, the Veterans Administration, and the Virginia Medical Assistance Program. The Center is staffed by an Executive Director, a Business Manager/Assistant Director, a Program Manager, a Health Care Manager, and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). The ratio of CNAs to participants is 1:6. Two of the CNAs at the Center are also med techs who assist the RN in administering medications.

The Adult Care Center of Central Virginia offers a comprehensive program that includes a variety of health, social, and support services in a protected setting during daytime hours. Our program makes it possible for the adults we serve to maintain independence in a safe and supervised environment and return to their homes in the evening.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of CVA

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one to one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Matching dedicated volunteers with deserving children is what we do best.  As a volunteer, you have an opportunity – not only to impact a child’s life today, but to transform their potential for tomorrow.

By matching a volunteer with a child in need, we not only give that child hope for his or her future, but we create a culture of giving back to the community.  Through the efforts of our volunteers, we change lives…for the better!

Does the Work of Big Brothers Big Sisters Matter?

  • 90% of children with a Big Brother or Big Sister said the relationship with their BIG helped them make better choices throughout their childhood.
  • 86% said the lessons they learned from their BIG helped them make better choices throughout their adult life.
  • 77% of children with a Big Brother or Sister reported doing better in school because of the influence of their Big.
  • 52% of those children with a mentor said their BIG kept them from dropping out of high school.
  • For every $1 invested in Big Brothers Big Sisters, communities see a $3.28 benefit through reduced violence, crime and improved educational outcomes.
  • When just 1 in 100 children is matched with a BIG and put on the right path – in school and out of jail, we as a community reap the rewards.
Each of these statistics validates the wonderful work that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia does.

Whether you chose to support BBBSCVA by serving as a volunteer, a mentor to a child or you choose to make a financial commitment to help support our programs, your involvement is helping us help the children of our community. We thank you for choosing to make a difference in a child’s life for the better!

BBBS of Central Virginia serves the cities of Lynchburg & Bedford, and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell. Our agency directly interacts with each child as an individual and not as part of a group of his or her peers. We focus on promoting positive behavior through a team approach comprised of the Big, the parent, and our staff. Through our unique one-adult-to-one child method, Big Brothers Big Sisters complements without duplicating the efforts of other youth agencies.
